Founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, Royal Ascot week is the major calendar event at Ascot Racecourse and was attended every year by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and members of the Royal Family. The third day of Royal Ascot, known as Ladies Day, is a day to be see and be seen. It is a day of extravagant hats, glamorous outfits and the Gold Cup.

The term Ladies' Day dates back to 1823 when an anonymous poet described Thursday at Ascot as "Ladies; Day...when the women like angels, look sweetly divine". Traditionally women were given free or discounted tickets on Ladies' Day which were otherwise only available to men. So while the event is not just for ladies, it is an event synonymous with fashion and we encourage you to dress up to the nines!
